Arrival

We arrived on the island of St. Martin today after a three and a half hour flight on Continental Airlines from the Chicago airport to the Princess Juliana International Airport on the dutch side of the island. St. Martin or Sint Maarten is currently the smallest island in the world to be split into two nations, the Dutch side Sint Maarten which covers about forty percent of the island, and the French side St. Martin which covers about sixty percent. The Dutch side is well known for its festive nightlife, and casinos while the French side of the island is known for its food and shopping. We rented a car and drove from the airport to our hotel in Oriental bay on the French side of the island. On our way we stopped at a small marked to pick up food for the next day. Markets in St. Martin are full of fresh fruit and fish. We got Carambole (star shaped fruit) and Balaou (small local fish).
